Do Hard Things greatly impacted thousands of teenagers. We were encouraged to work hard, serve, and make a difference by Doing Hard Things.

TOMORROW the Harris' next book, Start Here, will host a book bomb. This book bomb will have hundreds of teens buying books on the same day. By doing this, Start Here can be pushed to the top spot on Amazon.com. The Rebelution needs YOUR help. So far 1044 books have been pledged. We need at least 1,100

After a talk with someone I deeply respect, I've been thinking more about what I want for this blog. God is calling us to a real, active faith that does what Christ commands. That's what this blog is about.

I'm planning on hopefully posting at least twice a week come the New Year.
But for now,

This song has a really amazing story behind it. It’s the story of a 15 year old who gave his life for Jesus. His passion for Christ propelled him to surrender all-and God was glorified in his life, and in his death. I’ll be posting about him soon.

I like what the song says about leaving everything behind. When we follow Jesus, it cannot be half-heartedly. Jesus didn’t die so we could be apathetic Christians. He gave his very own life! But he died definitely not so we could live for ourselves, but so we could live for Him!

Jesus called the disciples, but not just to wear the label ‘Christian’ and live however they liked. Instead, following Jesus meant that everything was surrendered to Him. It meant that their life was not their own. It meant that Jesus held the reins and sat on the throne. It meant that He made the decisions and decided the outcome.

Are you surrendered?

One of our pastors said this to my sister several months ago when she asked him how he was doing.

"Great" he replied, "Actually, I'm a great sinner, but since Christ came along I'm doing all right."

I was going to write a lengthy post on the reasons I am blogging, but this verse sums it up so neatly I'll leave it with that.

"For by a single offering he has perfected for all time
those who are being sanctified."

-Hebrews 10:14

Jesus has saved me and is sanctifying me- to glorify Him and enjoy him forever- and to spread his glory- is the reason that I write this blog.

Much is Expected

The older we get, the more responsibility we hold. As babies, our parents buckle us into the car. As young children, we learn to tidy our garbage from inside the car. As we get older, we learn to wash the car, and then eventually to drive it.

As Christians, we believe we should be striving for excellence. But as teens, blinded by low expectations, we can often lag behind and think that we are exempt from working hard just because we are young. This is in direct conflict with the Bible.

In Luke 12:48, it says,

“Everyone to whom much was given, of him much will be required, and from him to whom they entrusted much, they will demand the more.”

This is not a passage to be taken lightly.

If you live in North America, have a computer, receive schooling, get an allowance, or live near a library, church, or museum, you are privileged. Much has been given to you. This verse applies to you.

The book: If the World Were a Village by David J. Smith (2002) makes an amazing statement as it shows us what the world would be like if it was a village with 100 people. On the page on electricity, Smith states:

“In the village there are:

42 radios

24 televisions

14 telephones

7 computers”

Out of 100 people only 7 had computers! Do you have a computer? Then you are blessed.

On schooling and literacy:

“There are 38 school aged villagers (age 5-24), but only 31 of them attend school. Not everybody in the global village is encouraged to read, write and think. Of the 88 people old enough to read, 71 can read at least a little, but 17 cannot read at all.”

Can you read? Do you attend school? Then you are blessed.

Throughout this fascinating book Smith crunches the numbers and makes his point clear- we who have much are in the minority and need to realize that we are blessed.

Though this book is not a Christian book, it has implications for believers. We need to live for Christ knowing that we have been ‘given much.’
